The mission of the AO Research Institute (ARI) is excellence in applied Preclinical Research and Development within trauma and disorders of the musculoskeletal system and translation of this knowledge to achieve more effective patient care worldwide. The ARI contributes high quality applied Preclinical Research and Development (exploratory and translational) focused towards clinical applications/solutions as well as investigates and improves the performance of surgical procedures, devices and substances. It fosters a close relationship with the AO medical community, academic societies, and universities and provides a research environment and support for AO clinicians.

The team you will join:

The Focus Area Surgery team of the Preclinical Services Program of ARI, is service oriented and therefore involved in a variety of preclinical studies in collaboration with internal and external partners. The majority of studies is related to bone fracture fixation and healing, aiming to provide solutions with high translational potential.

With this context, we are looking for a (Junior) Project Leader to join our team at the Focus Area Surgery of the Preclinical Services Program of the ARI.

In this role you will be required to:

  • Assist and conduct anesthesia and imaging (radiography and CT imaging)
  • Assist surgical procedures
  • Post operative care of laboratory animals (mice, rats, rabbits and sheep)
  • Support of acquisition and maintenance of accreditations (e.g. ISO 9001, AAALAC, GLP) of the Preclinical Program/ARI
  • To carry out service / scientific and administrative work related to the projects
  • To support publication of the results in peer-reviewed journals
  • To supervise and motivate interns and fellows
  • Maintain lab books
  • Support laboratory process and all relevant project documentation

To master this challenge you have:

  • University degree in Veterinary Medicine, postgraduate experience is a plus
  • Motivated and responsible personality, team player
  • Accurate, reliable, and detail-oriented working style
  • Pleasure in practical and computer work
  • Ideally trained in the handling of laboratory animals or motivation to be trained to handle laboratory animals
  • Good communication skills in English and also in German or willingness to learn
  • Willingness to live in Davos or the surrounding area and, in exceptional cases, to work on weekends
