Short Description

Surgical education is changing. At the AO Education Institute, adaptive learning, data driven evaluation and AI supported workflows are moving from pilots into real courses that reach 70,000 surgeons through 1,000 educational events, and as technology moves into surgical practice itself, how surgeons learn matters more than ever. As a Project Manager in our Curriculum Design team, you will sit where that transformation lands: owning global curriculum initiatives from planning through delivery, working closely with volunteer surgeon faculty, curriculum development leads and cross functional teams, and ensuring our educational offerings land on time, on budget and with measurable impact.

You might come from medical or professional education, instructional design, edtech, or corporate learning and development. You do not need to be a medical education expert on day one: we will help you build that depth. You bring the drive, the structure and the delivery mindset.

The position is based in Zizers, Switzerland, with home office flexibility: a permanent, full time (100%) role with 10 to 15% international travel to taskforce meetings, workshops and courses across our global surgeon network.

Main Responsibilities

Project Management:

  • Own assigned global, competency based curriculum projects in trauma, recon, spine, CMF, VET or sports medicine, managing timelines, budgets and deliverables from planning through delivery
  • Act as the key point of contact between internal teams and international faculty, facilitating content development, resource coordination and alignment with the AO's strategic priorities
  • Lead stakeholder communications, handling sensitive discussions with sound judgment about when to escalate

Learning Needs and Engagement:

  • Engage with clinical communities, faculty and learners to understand and anticipate learning needs, in line with the AO Education Institute's operating model
  • Translate these needs into curriculum priorities, project scope and measurable learning outcomes

Assessment Design:

  • Support the selection and validation of assessment types, tools and methodologies for curriculum initiatives
Review assessment outcomes together with the Program or Product Owner

Expanded Focus Areas:

  • Integrate educational technologies, simulation and AI supported tools into curricula and digital learning delivery, shaping content across written, video and interactive formats with instructional designers and media teams
  • Follow how emerging technologies change surgical practice, and help shape their place in our curricula so that surgeons build skills that last
  • Own the feedback loop: use analytics, learner feedback and dashboards to understand whether the education is teaching what it should, and feed insights back into improvement cycles
  • Contribute to curriculum updates grounded in educational evidence and emerging trends in health professions education

Main Requirmenets

  • University degree in instructional design, education, health sciences, communication, business or a related field
  • 5+ years driving projects in learning and development, instructional design, edtech, professional education or healthcare learning environments, with a track record of independently delivering projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Willingness to build deep medical education expertise over time, supported by structured onboarding and upskilling
  • Familiarity with digital learning platforms and data informed curriculum evaluation; experience using AI tools in project delivery or learning design is a strong advantage
  • Experience with healthcare professionals or volunteer networks, and in shaping learning experiences across written, video or interactive formats, is an advantage
  • A high bar for clear, engaging learning experiences and a genuine interest in evidence based teaching practices, with the opportunity to contribute to publications or conference presentations
  • Strong English fluency, written and spoken

We offer

  • An interesting and varied job in an exciting and innovative organization
  • The opportunity to be part of a highly committed international team
  • Modern infrastructure
  • High degree of flexibility regarding working hours and location (depending on operational requirements)
  • Generous package of social benefits, including supplementary vacation days and pension scheme contributions
  • Internal skills training opportunities and support for continued education
